Professional worker or housewife, what should a woman be?
By: Nancy Escalante
About women’s dignity and vocation as a housewife, professional worker and educator.
Being a woman is a wonderful gift, so it is important for women themselves and for society to rediscover their great value, so that women are able to carry out their mission development as a housewife, mother and professional worker. In this way women can feel fully satisfied while carrying out their vocation as an integral woman developing all her potentialities and skills that are source of life and wealth. Since women have a permanent receptive, transmitting and educative essence in life, it is important that she rediscovers her role in society fully understanding the sense of her femininity so that she does not feel limited allowing in this way an authentic development. This is not only a chance to be satisfied as a woman but it is also a duty that has to be fulfilled for the benefit of society, because it is essential that she humanizes several aspects of social life, starting with family, politics, education, etc.
With her femininity, women are called to give love and have the great gift of fertility not only in the biological aspect, but also in the social, cultural, political and family aspects. Therefore it is her right and at the same time her responsibility to spread everything that involves that gift of femininity to grow faith, hope and charity fruits in humanity. It is there exactly where this woman’s gift which is her capacity to devote herself, allows her to fulfill herself not only as an integral human being but also to actively and devotedly collaborate in the development and transformation of her environment, favoring the common well-being.
For this reason, women have the right and the obligation to develop in the working area, always keeping her interest in the family, instilling human values in all those people she has influence in. In order to achieve the above mentioned a woman needs to know herself thoroughly so that she can value her own nature and dignity as a woman, only then she might use all her capacities and skills, taking advantage of the different opportunities she might find in her way through life.
It is important that her work does not interfere with her role within the family because it is irreplaceable and has a priceless value.
A WOMAN who is a professional worker that appreciates her femininity and her dignity, considers her job as a true expression of herself, and an opportunity to serve, cooperate and share with others what she is and what she has, encouraging fraternal, loyal and generous relationships.
In this sense it is important that a woman stamps her feminine mark in all she does in her working activities so that there is a real congruence, creating a loving and giving environment. Therefore it is very important that an integral woman applies all her professional knowledge when educating her children and that she is willing to abandon her own interests giving priority to her family, in this way she will give a testimony of generosity, humanity and congruence in her life.
In the Apostolic Letter of H.H. John Paul II “Mulieris Dignitatem” about women’s dignity and vocation He recognizes that this femininity Gift restores women’s rights, praising women’s role and possibilities in society and the labor world. It is a reality that women carry out a magnificent job within the Church and in the labor world, that is why, Pope John Paul II states: “God has entrusted men, the human being to women”. [1]
Finally as a conclusion we can say that nowadays women are more involved than ever in society and the labor world, but that does not mean that she can only feel satisfied as a successful professional worker or because of a great economic development: it is clear that now, more than ever before, women are growing, but this does not mean that she has to forget about maternity to feel satisfied, on the contrary she must know and appreciate herself putting together as a whole all the different aspects we have mentioned inherent to her vocation. When women feel satisfied in every aspect she can influence her family and the society towards common well-being.
