What does being the father or the mother of many people mean?
By: Ricardo Valle Andrés (seminarist)
Priests and consecrated people become fathers of many people, sometimes we commit the sin of missing the fact of having biological children. It is wonderful to think that our blood is being formed, is growing and developing to give him/her that paternal love that is full of cares and worries. Being the father of many people is very difficult, it is to love and worry for the salvation and good behavior of total strangers for you, humanly speaking, because according to God, we all are His children and we must worry for each other.
Being a biological father is a wonderful divine gift, is being witness of your own blood being born, forming and developing as a human being. The love a father feels for his son must be immense because it is a part of him.
Being a father of many is very different, they are not your own blood, they have nothing to be with you, at a biological level. Loving them is more difficult, make their pain of your own, etc. It is most difficult, but very gratifying. Being a father of many implies to understand Gospel, being aware that love is an action not a feeling. Love means to give life, wanting that the other lives. For Christians love is the most important thing since all of us are children of God, all of us are brothers and sisters and have the same divine dignity. Being the father of many is knowing that you are loved by God and that you are able to transmit that love you receive, to the others.
