My relationship with God and with the others
By: Nancy Escalante
The most important thing to achieve an intimate relationship with God is to have full confidence in Him, which cannot be achieved if it is not based on the love of a good and merciful God.
Having a consecrated life to God does not necessarily mean that we experience an intimate and deep relationship with God. Confidence is the main feeling in order to have a true and deep experience with God. I am talking about the kind of confidence that allows us to know a good and merciful God Who is not only able to know and understand our needs but also to satisfy the most intense anxiety or emptiness sensation that we could experience. In other words, this confidence and experience of God in turn, let us live the gifts of Faith and Hope even when we are going through the worst difficulty of our lives and experience a true intimate and deep relationship with God.
In this sense, confidence, that is, to abandon in Gods arms not only allows us to totally accept the kindness of God, but also allows us to know ourselves, our inborn capability of kindness, generosity and love towards ourselves and towards the others, which results in a better relationship with everyone around us.
On the contrary, when we have a misconception of a punishing, unmerciful God, it is not possible to trust Him, ourselves, and less than anything the others. This feeling of insecurity, fear and loneliness that produces the lack of confidence in God, not only stops us from experiencing a true and deep intimacy with Him, but also leads us to experiment the outer world as an hostile and threatening world, which most of the times makes the other person to withdraw into him/herself.
This attitude of omnipotence is a consequence of the lack of confidence in a good and merciful God. This is the reason why the individual is so centered in him/herself that he/she is not able to look around with true devotion and love, being unable to experiment a real encounter with God, which produces an emptiness, dissatisfaction and frustration sensation, even a distrust feeling against God. We conclude saying that in order to have an intimate relationship with God, the most important thing is to have total confidence in Him, which cannot be attained if it not based on a good and merciful God’s love.
