What do you prefer in your life?
By: Nancy Escalante
Today, it is common to hear in mass media, with friends, at school, etc., that we must enjoy life to the maximum, which can be obtained, according to some people, abandoning yourself to your impulses, in such a way that happiness can be found in alcohol, drugs, sex, and everything that leads to pleasure. However these things can offer you pleasure momentarily, but later on it brings a great emptiness, pain and loneliness.
On the other hand if we try to reach a balance in every aspect of our life it would allow us to control our wishes and impulses, however it is not always easy, it demands from us a great effort to live sobriety and temperance every day of our life.
One of the most attractive personalities everywhere, is that one that shows order and balance, because it is difficult that it falls in any kind of excess transmitting harmony and generating a great testimony around it.
To live these values in our life helps us to give things their just value and manage adequately our appetites because our will grows and strengthens, avoiding that we fall in excesses that might lead us to dissatisfaction that makes us wanting more, causing vices, unleashed desires for sexual pleasures, infidelity, thus self-destruction, existential emptiness and suffering.
Therefore the effort to live sober helps the individual to feel sure abuot his/her capacities and qualities, to have control over his/her passions and body, to keep away from vices, with the capacity to offer friendship and genuine and well founded human values, which gives a person a real identity and internal plenitude that helps the individual to acquire sense of life.
