Mary was a virgin, not only in body but also in spirit, sin never altered her purity. Among her most remarkable qualities we find heart humility, prudence, discretion, obedience to God, she was fond of praying, kind to people, in a few words she loved virtue.
She is the perfect model of virginity, because her life itself is an example for everybody. She freely decided to consecrate her virginity to God even when she did not know whom she was to conceive, she accepted to be a mother at the age of fifteen, despite the implicit threaten of death, since she was a perfect candidate to be stoned to death for being a single mother. The virgin of Nazareth consecrated herself to God, because she felt God’s calling and she had received the Holy Spirit.
The choice of the virginal state is a brave option that is characterized by a very special union with Christ, which Mary had, because of the simple fact of having been the mother of Jesus Christ.
