St. Eustaquius “A converted man who managed to convert his whole family”

His name was Placido before his conversion; he was a roman soldier of the emperor Adriano. He was an honest man, devoted to his Gods. One day while he was hunting, he followed a deer that separated from the herd and went inside the woods. Clinging from the horns of the deer he saw a crucifix that talked to him through the deer: “I am Jesus, who you honored without even knowing it”.

Placido wanted to know more; he kneeled and promised to convert together with his wife and two children. That same night he was baptized by the roman bishop. Ever since, Placido´s name was Eustaquius; with his wife Teopista and his children he underwent a number of tests: they left Rome by ship, the captain seduced his wife, his children were kidnapped in Egypt. They met again and went back to Rome.

When they rejected to adore the gods, they were sent to the circus, but since the beasts ignored them, they were executed inside an incandescent bronze bull.
