Blessed Angela of Foligno “Who led a life of unlimited pleasures”
Angela, a proud, capricious, vain woman devoted to a mundane life, was born within a rich family. During her youth she abandoned to unlimited pleasures. She got married very young and had several children, but this was not an obstacle and she continued to lead the same kind of life she was used to, before. She was a rich woman; she had luxuries, owned castles, jewelry, country houses, but none of this made her happy.
When she was 35, suddenly her mother, her husband and children died, leaving her completely alone. In the middle of her suffering she became interested in religion and she decide to practice it, though she had not completely decided to leave the sin; she received communion without having confessed her sins sincerely, which made her fall into a bigger sin.
The remorse would not let her in peace, so she commended herself to St. Francis to help her out of such life of sin. Little after that she went to a church named St. Felicity, where a Franciscan priest used to preach, Father Arnald. After hearing him preaching she decided to make a whole confession that led her to a true conversion. Father Arnald becomes her spiritual director and confidant.
Finally after that confession, Angela decided to sell all her belongings and distribute the money among the poor and devotes her life to prayer and meditation.
Angela has an intimate relation with Christ and finds in Him the true love that makes her happy. Angela used to say that “Jesus penetrated her heart and embraced her soul”. She said that she had a great Eucharistic experience, in fact she wrote a book named “Recommendations about the most beneficial way to receive comunión”. She dies on January 4, the same day she is remembered now.
