St. Bavo “Who lived an agitated and dissipated life”

Bavo was born in the year 585 within a noble family from Brabant. When he was young he led an agitated and dissipated life, which he did not abandon even when he was married to Agletrudis, the beautiful daughter of a count.

After the early death of his wife, Bavo was so disturbed that he decided to donate all his belongings to the poor, he converted thanks to St. Amando di Maastricht, and his life changed; he became a Benedictine monk of the saint “Pedro de Gante” (Peter of Ghent) convent, which later would take its name after him and dedicated his life to missionary acts in Flandes together with St, Amando. Later he decided to retire, devoting completely to the ascetic life; he lived in a hollow tree in the woods. He died in the year 655.
