Patriarch Jove “A man who underwent a number of misfortunes and tragedies”

Biblical important figure that serves as a model of sanctity and patience; he lived in the country of Hus, in the region situated between Edom and Arabia. He was a very wealthy man; he had a great number of animals and slaves. He had seven sons and three daughters, he was mercy and blameless.

When he was at the zenith of the opulence and happiness a series of misfortunes and tragedies deprived him of his goods and his children.

He caught a disease that left him with a lot of sores, but his faith never declined; he never blamed God, not even when his wife made fun of him and talked against the Lord. Expelled from his home the was forced to live in a dump, there, he was found by three friends who came to comfort him and started a long dialogue with him to understand what causes suffering to mankind: they concluded that Jove should have sinned to deserve all that. But the voice of God, Who had let Satan to test Jove, proclaimed his innocence and gave him back his previous happiness; he gave him twice as much as he used to have before.
