Catholic Church Catechism says: prayer is the life of a new heart. It must encourage us all the time. However, we forget the One Who is our Everything. That is why spiritual fathers insist in prayer as a “God’s memory” a frequent awakening of the “heart memory”: It is necessary to remember God more frequently than breathing” (St. Gregory of Nyssa). (CCC 2629).
Paul told Timothy his disciple “Remember Jesus Christ…” (2 Timothy 2, 8) For how long haven’t you remembered God? Most of the times we remember people who is important in our life, who represent something valuable for us and it is not a burden it comes spontaneously from our heart. Remembering God is praying.
“Find your delight in the LORD who will give you your heart's desire" (Psalms 37, 4).
The Bible says “Pray without ceasing”. (1 Th. 5, 17). But we cannot pray “all the time” if we do not pray, with special dedication some times (CCC 2697): as it happens during the Eucharist, in communitarian prayer and personal prayer; we will make a difference in the latter.
• PRAY WITHOUT CEASING:
This means to entrust God with everything we do. To pray in every circumstance, before starting an activity, when we are walking on the street, when we are taking a bath, etc. We should not confuse this with having a moment alone with God, to pray spontaneously at any time.
• TO RETREAT TO PRAY:
It means to have a special time to be alone with God, only you and He. It is a true moment of intimacy with God. Every people in love need time alone, they need to be alone, without third parties. It is the same thing with God, it is necessary to be alone with him, this is to retreat to pray.
