What are sexually transmitted diseases?

Everybody has heard about AIDS, Herpes, or Human Papilloma Virus, among others. Today there are 50 different diseases of sexual transmission, 25 of which are very frequent, and 30% of them have no cure or have serious after-effects.

There are almost one million cases of sexually transmitted infections every day, 340 million cases a year.

Sexually transmitted diseases are infectious diseases that are transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person. Venereal or sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are diseases produced by pathogen microorganisms sexually transmitted through sexual contacts of any type. In the middle of the last century 5 STD were known, today, there are almost 50 STD.

The problem is that all STD are contagious, and they do not produce symptoms for weeks, months or years, so infected people do not know they have them and they infect others by means of sexual relations.

Which are the most common?

• Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
• Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
• Chlamydia
• Genital Herpes
• Syphilis
• Gonorrhea

How to prevent STD?

• Although many people think there is safe sex, as we can see there are some sexually transmitted diseases where the most efficient condom fails, since it is only necessary skin to skin contact.

• Abstinence. The best way to avoid STD is to wait until marriage to have sexual relations.

• Mutual and exclusive relation with the partner.

• To learn how to control our impulses (educate our will).

• To defend the family institution.

• To know how to resist social pressures that encourages having sexual relations.
