Self-esteem is the way a person feels and thinks about himself/herself. It means it is the concept you have of yourself. Self-esteem is not only what you see in the mirror, but it also includes how you perceive your capacities, qualities, limitations and friendships. It is about loving, valuing and accepting yourself, with your body, your character, your qualities and your experience in life.
Corporeal image and self-esteem
The corporal image you have during puberty focus problems in three factors that might make you feel unpopular, insecure or without confidence in yourself:
• Physical appearance: when we reach puberty, many times we are not comfortable with our body and as if it would not be enough there are some pimples that appear on your face. These changes may make that you feel insecure, but remember, this is not happening only to you, it is something that happens to all the people in the world who have your age.
• Problems you have due to the development of secondary sexual characters (erections, menstruation, etc.).
• Corporal Image, identity and self-esteem: this is due to the fact that you do not know who you are or who you will be in the future, that is why identity crisis generates a low self-esteem; regarding the corporal image, due to the constant changes you have not assimilated them yet.
Satisfaction of the corporal image is reached when you accept yourself and get to know the abilities you have.
That is why recognition of the own body, acceptance and sports are very favorable for your self-esteem and your security.
