LENT is a forty-day season or period of preparation for Easter; it is a time for converts. We remember the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness without eating or drinking. For this reason, Lent Season should be for us a forty-day period for serious, disciplined self-examination, a time of purification of the soul, with an attitude of penitence in order to lead a truly Christian life. This is possible through meditation and intensive prayer, just as Jesus did during those forty days He spent in the wilderness.
That is why Lent is a time to…:
1) Repent from our sins
2) Make penitence
3) Convert to God
Lent Season begins on…
The Season of Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends before the Mass held on the morning of Holy Thursday.
It starts on Ash Wednesday because…
When we go to Church for the imposition of Ashes and the priest says: "Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel". Not only does it remind us that we will die some day and the only thing God is going to take into consideration is the good and the bad things we have done during our lives, but we also express with humbleness and true love to God that we want to convert to God, moving away from evil and sin, that means, form everything that offends and sets us apart from God.
Or this reason, the symbolism of Ashes is…
It is a reminder of men’s weakness and mortality. It also reminds us that men are sinners, and it also represents a Prayer and a deep plea to The Lord so that He protects and helps us in order to reach Resurrection for man is meant to participate in Jesus Christ’s Kingdom.
What we wait for, after Lent Season…
We hope that after living Lent Season a deep and sincere conversion to God takes place in order to live the day of the Resurrection of Jesus.
Do you know how to achieve the conversion of the heart during Lent Season?
The key is by carrying out conversion acts, for example:
1. Make a clear, concise, concrete and complete confession.
2. Make Penitence.
3. Forgive and live according to Jesus’ doctrines.
4. Live Charity and be merciful.
The Holy Week is…
The Holy Week marks the end of Lent Season and we commemorate the Passion and Jesus’ death and resurrection. The beginning of the Holy Week is on PALM SUNDAY, that day Catholics remember the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, people carry palms branches to the Church, and priests proceed to the blessing of the branches.
Maundy Thursday/Holy Thursday:
Thursday of Holy Week, it is the day of the institution of the Eucharist by Jesus at the Last Supper. Jesus had the LAST SUPPER WITH His apostles, leaving us THE EUCHARIST or COMMUNION to stay with us forever. Therefore, every time we receive the communion Jesus, being inside the host, enters our heat.
Good Friday:
After the Last Supper, Jesus went to pray to the Mount of Olives where He was arrested, interrogated and beaten, they placed a crown of thorns on His head, they mocked him and finally He was nailed on the Cross and He died. How much suffering must Christ have lived for us! Everything for the love He feels for each of us men, for the forgiveness of our sins and for our salvation.
Holy Saturday
This is the day when we accompany our Mother Virgin Mary in Her grief because She lost her only Child. She represents the strength of the flesh and the blood as well as the nobleness, love and devotion.
Easter Sunday
Jesus Christ was buried, and HE ROSE FROM THE DEATH on the third day after his crucifixion, which means that Christ succeeded in opening the doors of Heaven to us.
