Are you ready for this?

By: Claudia Orozco

Recently, I was looking at a TED video: http://twurl.nl/3jmnys The name of the video is “What Adults Can Learn from Kids” and the lecturer is an amazing child prodigy called Adora Svitak. She has been an American young writer for the past 5 years (and up to April 2010 she is just 12 years old!). She goes around USA talking about literacy and encouraging both adult and children to have hope for children.

To have hope for the new generations is vital for us to go on! John Paul II used to encourage youth telling that we are the LIGHT of the world and we must SHINE before all.

I love to think of myself of a bright candle who enlightens where I go. I think that as I smile, I can show this light to the world, and through my actions / thoughts / feelings, I can let God enter to my environment and, in this way, I shine before others.

Have you ever seen people shine? Moreover, have you ever shone yourself? I know it can be difficult to assimilate… Given the hard circumstances in which we live nowadays, how can people “shine” in this darkness? Well, let me tell you that it is within these conditions when we can shine even MORE.

Do you reckon what’s the source of this light? I give you clues: This light fulfills all our promisses and illusions; makes us wake up with a great enthusiasm of life; gives us reasons to sigh of pure love; sparkles us of faith even if we are in the worst scenario; gives us strength to continue building a world of justice, peace and solidarity. Do you already know which is the source of the light?

Yes! It is LOVE. Just Love can make us so free that we let ourselves be drawn to happiness. We all are here to be happy, that is to love with all our might. It is just by letting ourselves be loved that we are going to be able to give love. And just after this, the love that we give will be pure and eternal, because it doesn’t come from ourselves, but from something deeper (which is the light that we are).

Remember what Jesus says: “I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” Jesus is God, and God is Love. IF we let ourselves be full of Jesus, full of Love, then… We are going to shine. We are going to be able to show His Light in our lives, through our friendships, in our expressions of deep feelings for others.

If we go apart from Him, our light will diminish until put out, and we will be inmerse in this world trying to look for happiness, for truth in the wrong ways: drugs, alcohol, sex. But if we go back to Him, we will be able to love and shine as we can only do when we have it all.
I have shone when I kiss with all my love.
I have shone when I cry of happiness.
I have shone when I hug my friends.
I have shone when I pray.

I encourage you to shine, to be the light before all, to love with all your heart, to be happy, really happy…
